The Beatitudes: How to Be Blessed

Jesus, in this portion of scripture, describes eight situations that can make people miserable. He is not talking about eight separate people, but rather illustrating that the combination of several of these or more can plague any Christian. The people of that day were dealing with all of them under the captivity of the Roman Empire.

This series will help you in tremendously practical ways to adjust your vision and take hope in the midst of suffering and stress. The truth is that God doesn’t always change the situation outside. Sometimes he changes our situation “inside”.

Salt of the Earth

Matthew 5:14 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”

In this message, since Jesus said we’re like salt, we will look at three properties of salt…

Blessed When You Are Persecuted

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the…

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Some people don’t deserve what they have. That works two ways. Some are blessed, but they never bless anyone else. Some seem to have too many trials, while they seek to bless everyone around them.

The word “compassion” becomes “mercy” when you show caring…

Blessed When You Are Hungry For Him

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

As I read this scripture several things come to mind.

First: If I want it (righteousness) God is already saying “yes”. A lot of things I pray for are not necessarily going to get a “yes” answer from God.…

Blessed When You Are Meek

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Meek and weak are not the same trait. Someone who is “weak” takes abuse without a word because they really can’t do anything about it. The weak have my sympathy. The “meek” have the power to give back the abuses that are showed…
