When Depression Makes You Question God

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus .”

Worry and depression go hand in hand. Worry makes us agonize over what could possible happen next (which may not even happen). Depression paralyzes us from trying to do anything about it. We fall into (or climb into) a pit and just stay there. Worry and depression affect us emotionally, spiritually, and physically as well. The number of patients diagnosed with depression increases each year by 20 percent and at last count, 18.8 million Americans are affected by depressive disorders.

It seems it is normal to become depressed and worried. The Bible never calls us to become “normal” in the world’s norm. Faith is in complete contrast to worry and depression. The pain of the worry and depression make us forget God and live as though He died.

The bible uses such phrases as “overcomers” and “more than conquerors” and promises things like… John 8:36—”So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” In this message we will explore what the scriptures say about overcoming worry and depression.
