Exploring Philippians

One of the most interesting things about the church at Philippi, is that we have nearly an entire history, beginning in Acts, of the development of that church from a seed to a center of Christian development. Because of the letters to this church by Paul, we know some of their “growing pains” and Paul’s prescription for their healing. This study should help all of us to understand the challenges and excitement of growing a church from birth though maturity.

Rejoice

Loneliness and anxiety plague our society, right down to our own friends and even ourselves. In chapter 4 of Paul’s epistle to the Philippian Church, he gives some hands on, conscious methods to deal with this lack of peace in our lives. That tells me that society at that time dealt with the same thing.…

Sent to Ministry

When God chooses someone to send with His ministry, He has always sent imperfect men and women. The only exception was that He sent Jesus, who was perfect. In the case of all the imperfect people who were sent, those to whom they were sent did not all receive them. In fact, many rejected our…

POURED OUT, FILLED UP, AND POURED AGAIN

One of the greatest hindrances to our spiritual growth is self. Self-concentration destroys the concept of teamwork and the preservation and pride of self can cause us to forget our purpose. God sees and cares for our “self” while we fulfill our purpose as God’s family and team.

In any other situation if you pour…

Look on the Bright Side

Some people look at a rose and see the thorns. Some look at life and see the challenges as trash. Others see the challenges as the things to overcome in order to attain the victory. Paul had many, many challenges as he wrote his epistles to the Philippian church, but his writings reflect that he…

Real Freedom

Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.…

Living in Unity

Philippians 1:27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened…

TO LIVE OR TO DIE

The apostle Paul had every reason to withdraw from ministry. Though he was deeply-loved by most of those with whom he worked, he was disliked and even hated by some other Christians, the Philippian surrounding community, and even some of Rome. He was now a prisoner in Rome, chained every day to a Roman guard.…
